We close out the summer and plunge into fall with our September list featuring the best in new music... plus one stellar reissue. Thank you Big Crown Records for re-releasing 1972's Never Coming Back, the overlooked album by the underrecognized soul artist Shirley Nanette.
Lots of collabs this month; The No Ones ( Peter Buck of R.E.M & Scott McCaughey of The Minus 5) are back with a new single, Katie Crutchfield and Jess Williamson have teamed up for a new project Plains, The National & Bon Iver hit it out of the park again with "Weird Goodbyes", Sleater-Kinney & Courtney Barnett? Yes Please. And don't miss Armani Caesar and Westside Gunn railing on Paula Deen.
A few newer projects that keep catching our ear include London's Jockstrap, Chicago's Dehd (who just keeps getting better), Royel Otis, Emily Nenni ( recently signed to New West Records) and Atlanta based goth rockers CDSM.
Other highlights include Nilufer Yanya covering PJ Harvey, the new album from Death Cab For Cutie, Arctic Monkeys take a new sonic turn, a blistering track from Asheville's Wednesday and fantastic new music from Stopover Festival alum All Them Witches, The Bones of J.R. Jones, Ezra Furman, Kate Bollinger, Peel Dream Magazine, Quinn Christoferson and Danielle Ponder, whose debut album came out September 16th and is blowing up the universe.
